The new initiative is called 'Arts Live,' and is designed to bring more art to the village's open spaces.
A piece from Shaw's 'Ruin' series and another called 'Jacob's Ladder' now stand on a grassy space at Prospect Avenue and Library Lane.
Both sculptures, created out of weathered steel, are marked by plaques with quotes about the importance of art from trained psychiatrist Shaw, who resides in New Paltz and has had his work displayed all over the country.
“This significant donation means the arts are alive and well in the Village of Mamaroneck, both for residents and visitors,” noted Mamaroneck Arts Council chair Solange De Santis.
Each piece was donated by local resident and Arts Council member Michael Rosenbaum, whose family has donated other pieces of Shaw's art to the University of New Mexico and Marquette University.
“We look to this as the first step for the future expansion or sculpture displays throughout the village," said Mamaroneck Mayor Norman Robertson.
